For more than 230 years, the Kazan State-Owned Gunpowder Factory has been producing gunpowders and charges for almost all types of weapons, as well as hunting and sporting powders. The company is successfully introducing innovative ideas, focusing on strengthening the scientific potential and optimising production processes within the Labour Productivity and Employment Support national project.
Since the beginning of the year, FCC experts, together with the company’s employees, have been working on optimising the production processes for sports and hunting powders. During the implementation of the national project, the production of such powders increased by 30%. The in-process inventory - unclaimed products accumulated in the workshops - was decreased by 60%.
A significant increase in productivity was achieved through the introduction of lean manufacturing tools. For example, according to the results of a comprehensive analysis, it was revealed that the equipment stood idle. FCC experts have developed a whole range of measures to eliminate equipment shutdown. Some of the innovations have reduced downtime by 75%, and this work will continue in future.
The company’s employees will not stop there. In the near future, optimisation will affect all areas of gunpowder production. For this, the enterprise has its own team of changes. At the moment, a schedule has been developed for training the workshop employees in the lean production basics.

The POZIS company (part of the Tecmash Concern under the Rostec Corporation) plans to launch a new automated system indigenously designed by its specialists, which would allow the enterprise to increase the production capacity of household refrigeration and medical equipment by 40% in the near future.
As part of its investment programme entitled “Comprehensive Production Development of Household and Medical Refrigeration Equipment Based on Introduction of High-Tech Equipment and Advanced Technology”, POZIS has developed and started pilot operation of an automated system for the production of elements for the bodies of household and medical refrigerators.
This system employs some elements of mechatronics and robotics. High precision and productivity are ensured through the use of state-of-the-art power electronics in the driving components. The bending formers use new, unique methods of bending, which makes it possible to adjust their angle and correct the profile.
During the year, a group of experienced specialists worked on the project from idea to implementation, half of them were young designers who had been trained within the framework of a “Comprehensive Programme for Supporting and Developing Human Resources of POZIS in 2015-2020” specially developed by the company.
The TGK-16 energy company received a certificate of readiness for the heating season 2020/2021. The document was signed by Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia Yevgeny Grabchak. The certificate confirms that the equipment of TGK-16 stations is ready to carry electrical and thermal loads in the autumn/winter period.
The company, despite the difficult conditions of the pandemic, managed not only to repair the steam-power section equipment in both branches, but also to timely complete the major inspection of the hot-gas-path at the 9HA.01 gas turbine produced by GE of the GTU power unit St. No. 7 at the Kazan CHP-3. To carry out the gas turbine inspection, it was necessary to involve foreign experts from General Electric and Atlas Copco. This was greatly complicated by the closure of the borders.
All operations were completed on schedule. The GTU is connected to the grid and carries a maximum electrical load of 405 MW.
It should be noted that the readiness of power plants for the heating season is determined by a number of parameters, including those related to the technical condition of the equipment and the training of personnel to work during the period of maximum winter loads. This year TGK-16 was assigned a readiness index of 0.99.
The decision on the readiness of an electric power facility for the heating season is taken by the Russian Ministry of Energy based on the results of monitoring readiness indicators. The monitoring is carried out continuously throughout the year.
