A field meeting was held at the KAMAZ engine plant this week, at which the heads of the company’s divisions discussed the implementation of the project for the synchronisation of truck assembly lines. Under the guidance of Chairman of the Production System Development Committee Igor Malyasyov, the participants assessed the current situation along the component parts supply route, from their production to the engine assembly line and paint and delivery of the power units.

The work under the project has been conducted for many years, and it eventually led to some success: the downtime of the main assembly line No.1 due to late delivery of power units has decreased by 30% compared to last year. The situation at the second main assembly line is more tense, with 7.5% more downtime due to an increase in the production rate. Igor Malyasyov reminded that in September the automobile plant should reach a production rate of 220 vehicles per day, which means that it is necessary to evaluate the risks.

Duma Deputy Irek Boguslavsky also took part in the event and said that sustainable production development, as at KAMAZ, is a sign of a strong and stable enterprise.

Deputy Executive Director of KAMAZ for Logistics and Director of the Logistics Centre Evgeny Budaretsky took personal control over implementation of the instructions concerning improvement of logistics. Each engine plant workshop will also develop its own measures to reduce downtime and improve labour productivity.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the Sbertalk session organised in Sberbank’s business communication zone. The topic of the talk was ESG transformation of regions.

The meeting was held as part of the 12th International Economic Summit Russia - Islamic World (KazanSummit 2021).

ESG is a particular set of principles and approaches in environmental, social, and governance responsibility, which along with the usual economic parameters should be taken into account in the planning and operations of any company.

Rustam Minnikhanov noted that ESG principles have already been implemented in a number of major Tatarstan enterprises. KAMAZ, Tatneft, Kazanorgsintez and Taif-NK are among the ESG-rated Russian companies. Implementation of this trend, according to the Tatarstan President, may become a matter of national importance. This also applies to banks, which find it more profitable to invest in green projects.

“Our banks are also joining the ESG standard. Ak Bars Bank promotes the principles of sustainable development in Tatarstan through supporting social projects. Ak Bars Insurance is the first insurance company in Russia to receive an ESG rating,” the Tatarstan President said.

The President noted that Tatarstan is aimed at the closest work with Sberbank as one of the drivers of implementing the latest trends, including those in the field of ESG.

In 1992 in Naberezhnye Chelny (Tatarstan), the RIAT enterprise (Development and Production of Automotive Equipment) was established for prompt fulfilment of orders for KAMAZ special vehicles.

Today, RIAT is a reliable, well-adjusted mechanism capable of solving the most complex production and organisational tasks and an active participant in the Labour Productivity national project

In 2019, with the targeted support from the Regional Competence Centre of Tatarstan, a sample stream was created. In order to further improve productivity, additional investment was required and RIAT applied for a soft loan from the Industrial Development Fund at 1 per cent for 5 years. In late 2020, the Expert Council of the IDF approved the investment project of RIAT and allocated a loan of RUB 300 million under the Labour Productivity programme, for which the company will purchase equipment, organise production processes based on lean production principles and methods, and produce up to 2,000 various special vehicles, towed vehicles, special structures for automotive chassis and trailers per year. Together with RIAT’s own investment, the total budget of the project will amount to RUB 780 million. The loan funds will be used to purchase blanking, machining, welding, assembly, and painting equipment for production.
