In Tatarstan, it is planned to create a Centre for the application of wear-resistant coatings using technology by VPT company. Discussion on the implementation of this project became the main issue on the agenda at the meeting with VPT President Vyacheslav Monastyrsky, which was held today by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov. The objective of this project is to develop industrial samples of process systems and technologies for hardening carbide cutting and punching tools used in the processing of special materials for military and civil purposes and adapted to specific production conditions. The essence of the technology lies in the application of a multilayer or gradient coating using the PVD method with the subsequent modification of this coating.

The technology under development has a number of advantages, including an increase in the durability of carbide tools, lower cost of coatings and a high productivity of the process system being created (up to 1 million units of carbide cutting inserts and up to 150,000 units of axial carbide cutting tools per year).

No analogues of this technology exist in Russia today.
