At the oligomer and glycol plant of Nizhnekamskneftekhim, a new facility for KDI-M catalyst production was launched with a capacity of 3,000 tonnes a year. Its construction was started in 2016 as part of an investment project to increase the output of SKI-3 isoprene rubber up to 330,000 tonnes a year. Commissioning and start-up operations at the facility started in late January. The first batch of catalyst was obtained on February 14.
The microspherical chromia-alumina catalyst of the KDI-M brand is used for the synthesis of isobutylene by isobutane dehydrogenation and isoamylenes by isopentane dehydrogenation. Nizhnekamsk-made KDI-M catalyst is characterised by increased activity and selectivity ensuring a more stable product yield.
The new production of KDI-M catalyst in conjunction with the existing production with a capacity of 2,000 tonnes a year will fully meet the needs of Nizhnekamskneftekhim subdivisions for dehydrogenation catalysts, without the need to purchase this product from third parties.
Nizhnekamskneftekhim, as one of the largest petrochemical manufacturers in Eastern Europe, holds a lead among domestic producers of synthetic rubbers, plastics, and ethylene. It is part of the TAIF group of companies.
