Mandatory marking of packaged water begins on September 1

10 June 2021, Thursday

The water marking experiment came to an end on June 1. A total of 319 producers took part in the pilot project. All of them have different production volumes, from 60,000 to 36,000 units. Some 38 producers tested the goods movement processes in logistics and marked water sales in retail. In total, the companies ordered almost 10 million codes during the experiment.

All types of lines were tested: automatic, semi-automatic, and non-automatic. All form factors were tested: from 100 ml single-use cups to plastic and glass bottles of 0.3 litre - 2.5 litres and recyclable 19-litre containers.

All these indicators made it possible to approve the terms of mandatory marking of this product group. In accordance with the new Resolution by the Russian Government No. 841 of May 31, 2021:

  • Mandatory registration in the system begins on 1 September this year.
  • Marking will become mandatory for mineral water from December 1 and for other categories of drinking water, from March 1, 2022.
  • From September 1, 2022, compulsory transmission of information to the marking system on retail sales begins.
  • Starting on November 1, 2022, volumetric-variety accounting, i.e. compulsory transfer of information on the circulation of marked water, will be introduced. At the same date, data on withdrawal from circulation for reasons other than retail sales will begin to be transmitted.
