SEZ Alabuga to build new plant for production of carbon fibre raw materials

Today, during the business lunch hosted by the Special Economic Zone Alabuga at the platform of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), an agreement was signed between the Republic of Tatarstan and Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation on the implementing the investment project for the construction of a PAN precursor plant in the SEZ Alabuga.

The document was signed by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Director General of Rosatom Aleksei Likhachev.

The PAN precursor is the main raw material for the production of carbon fibres. The design capacity of the new plant is 5,000 tonnes per year with an outlook of increasing it up to 25,000 tonnes. The parties plan to start the construction of the facility in 2017 and fully implement it by 2020.

The total investment will amount to RUB 6.9 billion, of which RUB 2.1 billion will be invested by SEZ Alabuga. It will provide a site for construction, erection of buildings and structures, and energy resources for the period of operation. For its part, Rosatom will ensure the design, supply of technology, and further operation of production facilities with investment of RUB 4.8 billion.
