From 8 to 9 December 2015, Kazan hosted the 3rd Interregional conference “Quality Is the Basis of Competitiveness of the Modern Automobile Industry” under the auspices of the Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade, PAO KAMAZ, and NP Volga Quality Centre within the framework of the Days of Quality in the Republic of Tatarstan which are held on the annually basis.
The conference was attended by over 200 experts of the automotive industry’s enterprises from Belarus, Germany, Bashkortostan, the Chuvash Republic, as well as from Vladimir, Volgograd, Kurgan, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Samara, Tver, Ulyanovsk, Tula, Saratov and Tyumen Oblasts from such cities as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Pskov, Chelyabinsk, Lipetsk, Perm, Novosibirsk, etc.
On 9 November 2015, tours of production sites of PAO KAMAZ, OOO ZF KAMA Systems for Commercial Vehicles, OOO Knorr-Bremse. Systems for Commercial Vehicles were organised for those who wished.
International Day Against Corruption is celebrated on 9 December 2015 (initiated by the United Nations). On 1 November 2003, the United Nations Convention against Corruption was adopted by the UN General Assembly at the High-Level Political Conference in Merida, Mexico.
The document obliges the states that signed it to declare bribery, embezzlement of budget funds and laundering of the proceeds of corruption a criminal offence. UN Convention against corruption 2003 was the first document of its kind. Russia was one of the first countries that signed the Convention.
Corruption is a complex social, economic and political phenomenon that somehow affects all countries, regardless of their level of development. It slows down the economic development of society and undermines the foundations of the state.
Many countries around the world hold demonstrations, meetings, conferences, seminars, and other events on the International Day Against Corruption.
On 8 December 2015, within the framework of the visit to Qatar, the Tatarstan delegation headed by President Rustam Minnikhanov learned about activities of the Qatar Education City, a project of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
The Education City is an educational district on the outskirts of Doha that covers an area of 14 square kilometers. It is a territory with various educational institutions from secondary schools to research institutions, as well as branches of a number of universities from various countries. The Education City serves as a platform where business meets science, and where appropriate connections are established to use scientific achievements for development of private and public business.
The construction project of the City was launched in 1997. The official opening ceremony was held in 2003.
Currently, the Education City has branches of six American, one British, and one French universities. The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Qatari Academy (for school-aged students) is operating in the City.
On 8 December 2015, Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov attended the round table discussions dedicated to cooperation between Tatarstan and Qatar within the framework of the visit of the Tatarstan delegation to Qatar headed by President Rustam Minnikhanov.
During the round table discussions with the participation of the Qatar Investment Authority and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of business community of Qatar and Tatarstan, the parties discussed promising areas of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov and Vice Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry Muhammed bin Ahmed bin Al Kuwari delivered their welcome speeches to the participants of the round table discussions.
The presentation of Tatarstan economic, industrial, investment and tourism potential was made during the round table discussions.
The Agreement on cooperation between the Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and Industry was signed.
On 7 December 2015, Doha, Qatar, hosted the meeting between Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov and Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammed Saleh Al Sada, who in turn was appointed as President of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and will take office on 1 January 2016.
During the meeting, parties discussed issues of cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and the State of Qatar in the fuel and energy sector.
On 8 December 2015, the Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade hosted the meeting with the delegation from the Republic of Finland.
The meeting was attended by the top official and representatives of the Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade, top executives and representatives of PAO TATNEFT and the Kazan Aviation Plant from the Republic of Tatarstan and the top executives of the Lahti Region Development Centre LADEC, as well as by a number of Finland-based companies.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the development of cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and the Republic of Finland in the field of manufacturing industry, agriculture, and ecology.
From 7 to 8 December 2015, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a working trip to Qatar.
The Tatarstan President was accompanied by Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov, Aide to the Tatarstan President Radik Gimatdinov, top officials of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency and the Tatarstan State Committee on Tourism, top executives of Tatarstan leading industrial enterprises.
Within the framework of the visit, a number of official meetings with the Qatari top officials were held.
Following the results of 9 months of 2015, bilateral foreign trade turnover between the Republic of Tatarstan and the State of Qatar amounted USD 602 thousand.
On 5 December, Kazan hosted Tatarstan Business Partners Forum that was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov. Over 600 delegates from 52 regions of Russia and 23 countries participated in the Forum. Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov took the floor during the plenary session.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted that only 30% of Tatars are currently living in Tatarstan, the rest are maintaining national culture and customs all over Russia and abroad.
At the end of the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov bestowed State awards of the Republic of Tatarstan and Letters of Gratitude by the Tatarstan President to entrepreneurs who maintain business contacts with Tatarstan.
On 4 December 2015, PAO KAMAZ engine plant celebrated the 40th anniversary since the first engine was produced.
In December 1975, a new era of motor industry has started. The first KAMAZ-740 engine caused revolution in USSR’s transport development. Diesel engines replaced the petrol ones: they were more reliable and cost efficient.
The first engines were manually collected and moved from stand to stand. Then an automated assembly line was launched. There were 20 years left before the next stage, Euro 1 engine of ecologic type.
The plant entered the new millennium with a new diesel engine. Mass production of Euro-2 type engines began. In the early 2000s, a new generation of engines that met Euro 3 requirements was produced.
Since 2008, the plant produces various Euro-4 engine models, which are used for many types of heavy and passenger vehicles. Their power is 450 hp, they are safer and more cost efficient.
Currently the engine plant is going through the next stage of development with the reengineering project at KAMAZ.
On 4 December, Interim Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov attended the Coordination Council on Industry in Tyumen that was chaired by Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
The main topic of the Coordination Council on Industry was the support of import substitution by regional tools. The issues were related to formation, implementation and development of regional tools to support import substitution.
The head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and representatives of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development would submit information regarding interaction between the federal authority and Russian entities on implementing import substitution plans.
