Ceremony of announcing Global Energy Prize winners held at Kazan City Hall

A ceremony during which the laureates of the Global Energy Prize 2021 were announced took place in the Kazan City Hall today. The event was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Global Energy Association Sergey Brilev, as well as members of the International Award Committee Marta Bonifert (Hungary) and Dmitry Bessarabov (RSA).

The Global Energy Prize is awarded for outstanding R&D achievements in the field of energy that help to improve the efficiency and environmental safety of energy sources on Earth in the interests of all mankind.

Rustam Minnikhanov noted that Tatarstan is a petrochemical region. At the same time, the republic pays much attention to the development of renewable energy. “Both areas are interesting to us and we will pursue them in parallel. Every year the amount of hydrocarbons will dry up. That’s why renewable energy, renewable resources will be used more and more actively,” the President said.

Then Rustam Minnikhanov announced the winner in the Unconventional Energy category. It was Suleiman Allakhverdiyev, a scientist from Russia. Zinfer Ismagilov from Russia also won prize in the Traditional Energy category. Yi Cui, a scientist from the USA, was selected in the New Ways of Energy Generation category.

The award ceremony will be held as part of the Russian Energy Week, which will take place in Moscow on October 13 to 15.
