Russian Helicopters, part of Rostec Corporation, signed a contract with the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergency Management and Natural Disasters Response (EMERCOM) during the MAKS 2021 aviation show to supply nine Mi-38PS helicopters with arctic-type versions by 2024.

The Mi-38PS search and rescue helicopter will provide an unprecedented range of rescue missions, capable of flying up to 750 kilometres with a crew and three rescuers, evacuating people in distress and returning to base. For this purpose, the helicopter will be equipped with extra fuel tanks, and its maximum take-off weight will be increased.

“Our peers need the newest equipment to carry out their tasks in the very challenging conditions of the Arctic and I’m sure that thanks to the advanced flight and technical characteristics of Mi-38 it will become a reliable support in expanding EMERCOM operations in the Far North,” said CEO of Russian Helicopters Andrey Boginsky.

The Mi-38PS will be able to operate in the Far North with autonomous basing, night vision goggles, installation of various rescue equipment and medical modules.

Using special equipment, Mi-38PS will be able to extinguish fires and mitigate consequences of oil spills. Hard mooring nodes on the mooring pad will enable the helicopters to land on icebreaker-class ships, for example, Project 22220 icebreakers of Arktika type, thus expanding opportunities for Mi-38 operation in the Far North.
