Russian Helicopters, part of Rostec Corporation, has received approval from the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) for the use of the latest de-icing system on the Mi-38 helicopter, as well as a satellite communications system, which provides internet access on board the helicopter.
The Mi-38 de-icing system has undergone a cycle of tests, during which it proved its effectiveness. The new equipment will enable the Mi-38 to prevent ice build-up in sub-zero temperatures and to continue flying in icing conditions. The system built into the design of the new composite blades extends the Mi-38’s range of applications in challenging weather conditions, including those in Arctic latitudes.
The Rosaviatsiya also approved the installation of the Mku30 satellite communication system. This option will provide passengers with high-speed Internet access during the flight. The Ku-band satellite communication system provides Internet access at speeds of up to 2 Mb/sec within the coverage area of Yamal satellites. It enables video conferencing on board, uninterrupted transmission of large amounts of data, and high-quality video images in real time.
The Mi-38 helicopters can operate in a wide range of climatic conditions, including sea, tropical, and cold climates. Thanks to the technical solutions used, the Mi-38 exceeds other helicopters of its class in payload capacity, passenger capacity, and main flight and technical characteristics. The helicopter can carry up to 5 tonnes of cargo, either in the cabin or on the external sling, or up to 40 passengers.
