Chak-chak Day celebrated on October 14

14 October 2020, Wednesday

Today, October 14, is the Chak-Chak Day. On this occasion, we shall say a few words about this ethnic food delicacy, a symbol of Tatar hospitality that is made in Tatarstan.

In the old days, chak-chak was considered as an exclusively festive food made for holidays and significant dates and brought as a gift to weddings. Now it has become an almost every day item; it can be purchased at any supermarket.

In Tatarstan, chak-chak is made in different forms: as a mound, cone-shaped, cylindrical, square, portioned balls. In each district, this confectionery product is prepared in its own way.

The main chak-chak components are unchanged. To prepare a delicacy, it is enough to melt honey with sugar, add water and cook a syrup. Chak-chak is poured with hot honey, mixed, and spread on a dish, giving it the desired shape. All what you need for a delicious chak-chak is butter, flour, eggs, milk, and honey. The dessert can optionally be decorated with nuts and dried fruits.

Benefits of chak-chak for human health are due to the natural honey in its composition. Everyone seems to have heard about the value of this unique product of beekeeping. However, it should not be eaten too often, because of its high caloric content.

The chak-chak record holder was made in Kazan for the opening of FIFA 2018; it was shaped like half of a soccer ball.
