Working group established to monitor retail prices for food essentials

30 April 2020, Thursday

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan has established a working group on the issue of monitoring retail prices and overpricing of certain types of socially important food essentials. This working group regularly analyses price monitoring for large federal and regional chains in the republic.

In the period from April 20 to April 27, 2020, an increase in prices for a number of socially significant food products was revealed:

- Onions, by 11%;

- White cabbage, by 8.2%;

- Potatoes, by 7%;

- Carrots, by 5.2%.

The main reason for the increase in prices for fruits and vegetables is the seasonal factor. In the same period last year, prices for these products were even higher: potatoes, by 9.3%, white cabbage, by 62.1%, and carrots, by 18.2%.
