Made in Tatarstan round table: prospects for local manufacturers

6 August 2019, Tuesday

Today, a round table discussion on the topic titled “Made in Tatarstan: Prospects for Increasing the Local Manufacturers’ Contribution on the Shelf. Pros and Cons.” was held at the Tatmedia Republic’s Agency for Press and Mass Communications. The organisers of the event are the editors of the RBC Tatarstan news agency.

The round table agenda includes a discussion on the competitiveness of local food producers, population demand for local products and consumer preferences, marketing opportunities, cooperation with Tatarstan brand retail chains in the Russian and international markets, as well as exports of local products. The round table discussion was addressed by representatives of the Tatarstan Ministry of Agriculture, food manufacturing companies, and retail chains of Tatarstan. Among these were Bakery and Confectionery Complex, Essen, Kukmara, and others.

Timur Baimullin, Government Relations Director of Volga Macro-Region, told how the work with local suppliers is built and what is their share in the Pyaterochka distribution chain. He also said that, based on his practice with twelve regions of the Volga Federal District, the chain is often faced with the fact that local producers cannot pass the audit and their business processes are not established in procurement and marketing, which notably complicates interaction between the parties.

At the end of the meeting, participants agreed that local manufacturers indeed have problems with federal retail chains. However, solution of these lies in the path of open dialogue and constant interaction.
