Today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan held a meeting with representatives of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
When welcoming the guests from Dubai, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Almaz Khusainov noted the importance of Tatarstan-Emirates relations, expressed the readiness of Tatarstan to participate in new projects and provide support in their fulfilment, and made a presentation of Tatarstan’s trade and industrial potential.
Dr Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf, Executive Vice President for Business Support and Human Resources, described the activities of DEWA.
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is responsible for the production and distribution of energy, as well as for the water and electrical supply in Dubai. The main strategy of DEWA is to implement green economy projects. By 2050, DEWA seeks to use 75% of clean energy derived from various sources (solar, nuclear, etc.). For these purposes, DEWA is installing solar panels on homes and arranging infrastructure for installing more than 3,000 power plants for electricity-powered vehicles.
Dr. Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf also spoke about the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which is designed to become one of the drivers for the innovative development of Dubai. The Exhibition, held annually since 1999, is dedicated to water treatment technology, energy technology and environmental protection. The Exhibition brings together 2,000 companies from around the world and contributed to more than 40,000 B2B meetings.
Vice President of DEWA invited representatives of Tatarstan companies to participate in the exhibition. “I hope that this will be the beginning of our mutual relations and we will be able to strengthen them in the future”, Dr. Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf said.
During the business meeting, the United Arab Emirates Water Aid Foundation (Suqia UAE) was also presented. The Foundation was organised in 2014 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum with a mission to provide access to clean water to all in need. Thanks to the various programmes of the Foundation and volunteer activities, more than 9 million people from 34 countries are provided today with clean water. Within the framework of the Foundation, a Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award of $1 million was approved, which is awarded to companies and students who have provided the best innovative project for producing clean drinking water.
At the conclusion of the meeting, representatives from Tatarstan and Dubai expressed their preparedness for mutual participation in various projects and the further development of partnership relations.
