First meeting of working group for commodity market pricing

30 January 2019, Wednesday

Today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan hosted a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on analysing the changes in consumer prices, determining the causes and factors of pricing in the commodity markets of Tatarstan. The event was chaired by Deputy Minister German Lerner.

The working group included representatives of the Ministry of Economy, National Bank of Tatarstan, the Tatarstan Centre for Economic and Social Research, the Tatarstan Office of the Federal Antimonopoly Service, and the statistics services. Key participants to the meeting were representatives of such retail chains as Bakhetle, Arslan, Tander, Agava, Metro Cash & Carry, and Selgros Cash & Carry.

In particular, experts discussed the changes in demand and the factors that influence them, as well as the representation of local producers’ commodities in retail chains and prospects for chain development in Tatarstan.

Representatives of the retailers expressed an opinion that the main factors affecting pricing may be a rise in fuel prices, to a lesser extent a VAT increase, and some other factors, such as, dependence on exchange rate for certain categories of goods.

The next meeting of the working group is scheduled for March in the Ministry of Agriculture of Tatarstan with the participation of local Tatarstan’s producers.
