On 7 April 2012 the special plenary session of the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution officially proclaiming 12 April as an International Day of Manned Space Flight. The representatives of more than 60 countries became the co-authors of the resolution. Starting from 12 April 1962 the Cosmonauts Day is celebrated in Russia in commemoration of the first space flight made by Yuri Gagarin. On 12 April 1961 the soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome on the Vostok spaceship and became the first in the world to make an orbital flight around the Earth. The flight in the near-Earth outer space lasted for 108 minutes.
In January 2007 the Kazan Motor Production Association held a ceremonial opening of the high relief to the outstanding academic and designer Sergey Korolev.
