Unique car battery plant opened in Tatarstan

Today, the Alabuga Special Economic Zone saw the launching of the Russia’s first battery production plant with fully automated assembly line by Bars Technology. The opening ceremony was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov, as well as representatives of Tatarstan ministries and agencies.

The objectives behind the establishment of the facility is to reach the output up to 4 million batteries per year by 2022, thus becoming the leading player in Russia in the automotive battery market and a leading battery supplier to country's automotive manufacturers. To date, project investment amounted to RUB 1.6 billion. Some 100 jobs have been created, and after reaching full production capacity their number will grow up to 350. The total investment in the project should come to about RUB 3 billion.

The second phase of the plant is scheduled for commissioning by 2019. The annual output will then reach 3 million batteries per year, which is some 15 percent of the entire Russian market.

The industrial development in the country is conducted in accordance with one of the May 2012 decrees by the Head of State (No. 596 “On State Long-Term Economic Policies”).
