The experts of the TatNIPIneft institute and the Tatneft’s HVO Production Department have developed a package of technologies to increase the efficiency of high-viscosity oil deposits development.

The package comprises three technologies: the application technology of thermogel compositions for blocking water-producing intervals in producer wells; technology for creating thermo-hydrodynamic bonds in clay-plated reservoirs; and technology of hydrocarbon solvent application. Taken together, these technologies make it possible to intensify the extraction of high-viscosity oil with application of the steam-gravity drainage method.

This package of technology solutions proved its high efficiency in the process of field tests and has been recommended for commercial implementation.  The total current economic effectiveness from the application of new treatment methods has been estimated at RUB 2.05 billion in the period from 2017 to 2019. The HVO package was awarded the Grand Prix at the 26th International Specialised Exhibition “Oil, Gas. Petrochemicals” in the category of the Oil Recovery Enhancements.

All the technologies have appropriate Russian patents for inventions confirming the unique nature of Tatneft’s theoretical and practical research in HVO production.
