On June 29, for the first time in Kazan, the Lower Kaban Lake saw the Solar Regatta engineering competition. In total, 38 school and 7 university teams from 26 regions of Russia took part in the event.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Solar Regatta President, the Director of the National Centre for Engineering Contests and Competitions, the Vice-Principal for Research at the Kazan State Power Engineering University, and others.
During the competition, schoolchildren and students fought for such awards as “The Best Pilot”, “The Best Design Project”, “The Best Designer”, Euroclass-1 “Electric”, Euroclass-2 “Speed”, Euroclass-3 “Experimental”, etc.
On June 30, at the end of the Solar Regatta, an engineering and environmental forum “Renewable Energy in Water Transport” was held at the KSPEU. The main topics of the forum were current problems and long-term prospects for the use of renewable energy in Russia and the world, the use of solar cells in shipbuilding for sea and river transport, and engineering solutions shown by student teams at the Solar Regatta.
The Solar Regatta helps popularise engineering creativity and state-of-the-art environmental technologies, educate “future professionals” with technical competence and the ability to freely navigate the latest trends and technologies.
For the first time in Kazan, this summer will see a sun-powered boat race. The Solar Regatta 2019, to be held on June 27 to June 30, will bring together more than 50 teams from 26 regions of Russia. The race will be held in the waters of the Lower Kaban Lake.
The Solar Regatta is a unique event where participants can compete in the speed, agility, and endurance of their environment-friendly boats powered by solar energy. The goal of the competition is to raise public awareness about engineering creativity and the latest environmental technologies.
The Solar Regatta is organised by the National Centre for Engineering Contests and Competitions. In 2019, the All-Russian stage of the competition is being held with the support from the Kazan City Administration, the Kazan National Research Technical University KAI, as well as the United Shipbuilding Corporation. The Regatta’s main partner is the Kazan State Power Engineering University.
The Solar Regatta international engineering competitions have been held in Russia since 2014. In preceding years, they took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Novgorod, and Grozny. Starting in 2018, school teams can also take part in the competitions.
