Keel of “Grad”, a small missile ship of project 21631, was laid today during a ceremony at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard n. a. Gorky.
The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Rogozin, Prime Minister of Tatarstan Alexei Pesoshin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov, and others.
In his speech, Dmitry Rogozin noted that three years ago, when the Crimea returned to Russia, the task was to raise the industry of that republic, and the Zelenodolsk Shipyard helped the Crimea rebuild its industry.
The mission of the ships of Project 21631 is the protection and defence of national economic zones. The advantages and uniqueness of the ships of Project 21631 is that despite their small displacement they are equipped with the most advanced missile, artillery, anti-sabotage, anti-aircraft, and electronic countermeasure weapons.
Their strike weaponry can hit not only the enemy's surface ships, but also ground targets located at a considerable distance from the shoreline. The water-jet propulsion system installed on ships allows conducting combat operations in shallow waters.
