On April 24, the Gorky Zelenodolsk Shipyard will hold the ceremony of laying the keel of Grad, the tenth small missile ship of Project 21631 developed by the Zelenodolsk Design Office.
The ceremonial events are expected to be attended by representatives of the Russian Government, the top officials from the Russian Ministry of Defence, ministries and agencies of Tatarstan, the executives of the Zelenodolsk Municipal District, Ak Bars Holding Company, as well as representatives of the designer and contractors.
The small missile ships of Project 21631, being built at the shipyard since 2010 for the Russian Navy, are multi-purpose river-sea vessels equipped with the most advanced missile, artillery, anti-sabotage, anti-aircraft, and electronic countermeasure weapons. The ships of this project are dedicated to the protection and defence of national economic zones.
Five ships of this project, the lead ship Grad Sviyazhsk and the follow-on ships Uglich, Velikiy Ustyug, Zelenyy Dol, and Serpukhov, are already assigned to the Russian Navy. Four more ships of this project are under construction at the Zelenodolsk Shipyard; these are Vyshniy Volochek, Orekhovo-Zuyevo, Ingushetiya, and Grayvoron.
