Today, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov. The meeting took place at the Kazan Kremlin.
These days, Kazan is hosting major sporting events, the First CIS Games and the 9th Russia, a Country of Sports international forum.
Last year, the trade turnover between Tatarstan and Uzbekistan was $156 million. In the first half of this year, the mutual trade amount has already reached $85 million.
President Minnikhanov stressed that the work of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Kazan contributes to a more active development of cooperation. In addition, work with leading Tatarstan companies is underway.
Cooperation in the field of education is also in place. Today, there are more than 3,700 Uzbekistani students studying at republic’s universities. The Tatarstan President said that the Kazan Federal University, one of the leading institutions of higher education in the country, has plans to open its branch in Uzbekistan.
Rustam Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan is one of Russia’s leaders in development of sports infrastructure. Today, there are more than 11,200 sports facilities in the republic.
At the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation in physical culture and sports, strengthening ties in tourism, and implementation of joint projects.
