Careful attitude towards the environment is an indicator of the society’s maturity and the basis of people’s well-being. This was stated today by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov at the conference “EU Decarbonisation Decision and New Paradigm of Russia’s Fuel and Energy Sector Development”. The event took place at the Kazan Expo as part of the Tatarstan Oil, Gas & Petrochemicals Forum.
The Tatarstan President noted that the relevance of issues related to the climate agenda and sustainable development has increased significantly in recent years. “All international companies in the oil and gas sector, under the threat of introducing cross-border carbon regulations, have adopted corporate programmes and set specific targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and implementing various offsetting measures,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
He reminded that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin outlined the general tasks in this area. They include reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, creation of a system of reliable emission monitoring and implementation of climate projects.
The conference participants then discussed environmental and economic aspects of decarbonisation in the oil and gas sector, innovative technologies in oil and gas production, energy efficiency and reducing carbon intensity of industrial processes.
The conference was also attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Mikhail Ivanov and Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nogaev.
