On May 21, 2021 a team of scientists from the Institute of Language, Literature, and Arts of the Tatarstan Academy of Sciences arrived in Tashkent, with the assistance from the Representative Office of Tatarstan in Uzbekistan, to study applied folk arts of Uzbekistan. The tour included visits to artisan workshops and museums in the cities of Tashkent, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz, Bukhara, Urgench, Khiva, and Nukus.
The delegation included Senior Researcher at the Department of Fine and Applied Arts Lyudmila Shklyaeva, Olga Ulemnova, and Natalya Gerasimova. The project team of scientists is the recipient of the Algarysh grant from the Tatarstan Government. The purpose of this scientific tour is to study the experience in the preservation of applied arts and crafts of the peoples of Uzbekistan and the identification of their interrelationship with the art of the Tatar people.
Upon arrival, a meeting was held with Aydar Ahtareev, Representative of Tatarstan in Uzbekistan, during which areas of cooperation were identified and opinions were exchanged. The participants noted the importance of establishing close cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Uzbekistan and Uzbek scientists, including activists of Tatar public cultural centres.
The delegation will stay in Uzbekistan until June 4. At the end of the visit, Tatarstan scholars plan to issue relevant publications.
