KAMAZ today is a leader in Russian truck engineering. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said so today at the celebrations dedicated to the 45th anniversary of production of the first KAMAZ truck. The ceremony took place in Naberezhnye Chelny on the site of the main assembly line of the Automotive Plant.

President Minnikhanov said that KAMAZ company is an example of production development. “In a very difficult period, under the conditions of fierce competition, KAMAZ continues to expand its presence in the market. It is a systematic work; it is the foundation laid by our veterans. We are proud of KAMAZ; we wish you prosperity and further vigorous development”, the Tatarstan President said.

As part of the official event, retired and current employees of the plant were honoured. Rustam Minnikhanov presented state awards of Tatarstan to KAMAZ veterans and plant workers.

Construction of the Kama Automotive Plant started on December 13, 1969. The giant was built at a record pace and on February 16, 1976 the first vehicle, KAMAZ-5320 high-sided truck, rolled off the assembly line. This first KAMAZ truck worked in Bashkortostan for many years, and then it was repurchased and restored, now being a valuable museum exhibit of the company.
