Three weeks to tyre marking: what benefits can buyers and businesses expect?

13 October 2020, Tuesday

On November 1, the first stage of introducing mandatory digital marking of tyres will start in Russia. This is specified in Russian Government Resolution No. 1958 of December 31, 2019.

Buyers will be able to check the legality of marked tyres and their consumer properties using the Chestny Znak (Honest Sign) application: for this, they have to scan a unique Data Matrix code printed on the tyre.

For citizens, the introduction of marking means a guarantee of confidence in the purchase of high-quality and safe goods. For example, there is no longer any risk of buying used tyres disguised as new ones. A bona-fide business would have more loyal customers, as well as an ability of automating and optimising business processes and expanding market share due to departure of unfair players. For the State, marking is the digitalisation of entire industries and administration, transparency of trade flows.

From November 1 onwards, all importers and manufacturers are obliged to produce and import marked tyres only, while wholesalers working with them directly are obliged to submit information about the purchase of such tyres and their withdrawal from circulation to the federal information system.

Retailers selling marked tyres should also transmit information about their withdrawal from circulation to the Chestny Znak system starting from November 1.
