On counterfeiting of industrial products in the republic

18 December 2019, Wednesday

Today, the Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade hosted a final meeting in 2019 of the Committee to Combat Illicit Trafficking of Industrial Products in Tatarstan.

Deputy Head of Tatarstan Customs Leyla Tufetulova spoke about the measures to protect the rights to intellectual property implemented by efforts of customs officers.

To date, the customs register has more than 5,000 intellectual property entries. Control over the enforcement of intellectual property rights is carried out during the declaration of goods with the filing of a customs declaration for goods and in the domestic market.

Most often, signs of counterfeit goods are detected in automotive parts, children’s building sets and toys, laptop cases, souvenirs, etc. In total, this year’s damage in the republic amounted to about RUB 18 million. The vast majority of counterfeit goods come from China, as well as from India, Hong Kong, and other countries.

At the moment, the main burden in the fight against counterfeit lies precisely on the shoulders of copyright holders. Counterfeiting today is becoming an increasingly serious problem, affecting the interests of not only businesses, but society in general. Consumers buying lower quality goods often risk both their money and their health.
