Composites Competence Centre opened in Kazan

The KNRTU-KAI saw the opening of the Composite Technology Special Competence Centre, a training and research laboratory on the basis of the university. The laboratory is a joint project of the Tupolev Kazan National Research Technical University and UMATEX (Rosatom). The project is implemented with the aim of training highly qualified personnel in the field of composites, as well as upgrading qualifications of designers, technologists, and experts working in the field of design and manufacture of products from polymer composites.

The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov, Principal of KNRTU-KAI Albert Gilmutdinov, Director General of UMATEX (Rosatom) Aleksandr Tyunin, other officials, as well as representatives of business community and educational institutions.

Guests also visited the premises of the new laboratory: a 3D modelling class, a tool room for car prototype making from composite materials, a moulding laboratory where the car prototype is laid up from carbon fibre-based materials, and a laboratory of finished products, where the end product is cured in a heating cabinet.

During the opening ceremony, KNRTU-KAI Principal Albert Gilmutdinov and UMATEX Director General Alexander Tyunin signed an agreement on KNRTU-KAI’s entry into the Composites Without Borders interregional industrial cluster.
