Dear current and retired employees of textile and light industries! On behalf of the Government of Tatarstan, let me congratulate you on your professional holiday, the Day of Textile and Light Industry Workers!

The Tatarstan’ light industry is a segment that not only produces clothing, footwear, leather goods, but is also one of the important sectors of republic’s economy meeting the needs of health care, agriculture, automotive, and furniture industries.

Please accept our sincerest words of appreciation for your dedication to the industry, diligent work, professionalism, knowledge, and creative approach in finding new solutions to your work.

I would also like to express my special gratitude to the industry’s long-service employees transferring their best traditions and skills to the younger generation. It should be noted that at the WorldSkills Russia 2019, contestants from Tatarstan won the highest award on the Fashion Technology skill. In this context, my special thanks go to mentors and experts for the successful preparation of participants and their decent performance at the National Competition.

OOO Ford Sollers Yelabuga, based on which the updated Ford Sollers joint venture in Russia is being created, has signed a special investment contract (SPIC) with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation to develop the production of the Ford Transit line in Russia.

The SPIC signing ceremony was held within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 7, 2019. The ceremony was attended by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Denis Manturov, Chairman of Ford of Europe at Ford Motor Company Steven Armstrong, and Director General of Sollers Vadim Shvetsov.

The SPIC, signed by Ford Sollers Yelabuga in a consortium with the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, provides for significant investment in future production and localisation of the Ford Transit line in Russia and will allow the company to retain all key government support measures for the project for the long term until 2028.

In March 2019, shareholders of the JV Ford Sollers – Ford Motor Company and Sollers – announced a restructuring of the joint venture, whose activities in the future will focus on the segment of light commercial vehicles. In the new Ford Sollers structure, shareholders of the Ford Motor Company and Sollers remain partners, while Sollers will hold a 51% share in the JV’s authorised capital.

From June 6 to 8, the city of Saint Petersburg is hosting the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019. From the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, the SPIEF 2019 is attended by Minister Albert Karimov and Deputy Minister Almaz Khusainov.

As part of his business programme at the second day of the Forum, Minister Karimov had a meeting with Vice-President for Strategic Development and Marketing of TVEL Ilya Galkin.

During the meeting, TVEL activities were presented and prospects for cooperation with Tatarstan’s research and production sector were discussed, including such areas as energy storage, additive technologies, and oil and gas services.

Albert Karimov and Ilya Galkin also considered the opportunity of organising meetings of TVEL representatives with relevant business community in Tatarstan and conducting a business tour of regional enterprises.

In addition, a meeting at the SPIEF 2019 booth of Tatarstan was held with a delegation from the Yaroslavl Region on the issues of cooperation in the field of mechanical engineering. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Almaz Khusainov.

A meeting took place today between top executives of Micro-Hybrid GmbH (Germany), AO KETZ (Russia), and OOO Karnet (Russia) with the support from the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan. The meeting dealt with the joint development and production of civilian products for the purpose of import substitution.

During the conversation, the parties identified promising areas of cooperation. In follow-up of the meeting, it was decided to visit the Micro-Hybrid factory in Hermsdorf (Germany) in order to review their production facilities. The companies reckon on fruitful and mutually beneficial collaboration in the future.

Today, Minister Karimov had a meeting with Minister of Industry and Trade of the Arab Republic of Egypt Amr Nassar.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019, which takes place in St. Petersburg from June 6 to June 8.

Albert Karimov emphasised the importance of today's meeting: “The Government of Tatarstan has always attached great importance to developing contacts with Egypt within the framework of Russian-Egyptian relations. And we are glad to expand our mutually beneficial ties”.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of the upcoming visit by the Tatarstan business delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, which is tentatively scheduled for the end of July. The business mission will involve the participation of Tatarstan’s leading industrial enterprises.

Trade and economic relations between Tatarstan and Egypt are continuously developing in a multitude of areas: mechanical engineering, petrochemicals, agriculture, IT sphere, and others. The 2018 foreign trade turnover between Tatarstan and Egypt amounted to more than US$ 20 million.

Today, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan held a regular meeting of the working group on organising and coordinating the development of the gas fuel market in Tatarstan and on the conversion of vehicles and agricultural machinery to run on the liquefied natural gas (LNG). The meeting was chaired by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Aleksey Savelchev and attended by representatives of republic’s ministries and agencies, Technopolis Himgrad, Gazprom Transgaz Kazan, KAMAZ, RariTEK, Tatarstan Grid Company, and others.

The participants to the meeting discussed organisational issues of the project “Construction of a Natural Gas Liquefaction Facility and a Network of Cryogenic Filling Stations in Tatarstan”, such as the selection of a construction site, as well as providing it with electricity, gas, and water.

The construction of a natural gas liquefaction facility would ensure reliable supplies of LNG for use as motor fuel in road transport.

An agreement regulating the implementation of this project in more detail is expected to be signed within the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019, which takes place on June 6 to June 8 this year in St. Petersburg.

Expert magazine, one of the most influential weekly business analytic publications in Russia, has published an annual rating of the investment attractiveness of industrial parks and special economic zones in the Russian Federation.

For the third year in a row, the leader in this rating is the Technopolis Himgrad. Year after year, it confirms its maximum attractiveness for residents and dominant position in the industry. Himgrad received the highest AA class, beating large industrial parks from such traditionally strong regions as Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moskovskaya, Leningradskaya, Ulyanovskaya and Kaluzhskaya oblasts. The rating’s top three are the sites from Tatarstan, confirming the republic’s status as a leader in innovation and investment development.

Today, Technopolis Himgrad accounts for 10.3% of the total number of industrial park residents in Russia and 5.6% of the total number of jobs created. One rouble of government investment in the infrastructure of Himgrad accounts for 11 roubles of private investment by residents in production facilities. At the same time, according to the Russian Association of Industrial Parks, the average in Russia is 5 roubles of private investment per 1 rouble of investment in infrastructure.

Technopolis Himgrad was founded in 2006 in pursuance of a Resolution by the Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers based on the unused facilities of Tasma Holding. The total area of ​​Technopolis is 131 hectares, the floor space of ​​industrial and warehouse premises is more than 500,000 square metres.

Vacuummash, the plant with a 75-year history, summed up today the results of the pilot project implemented by the company within the framework of the National Project titled “Increasing Labour Productivity and Supporting Employment”. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Almaz Khusainov, experts of the Federal Centre of Competencies, representatives of the Tatarstan Regional Centre of Competence for Increasing Labour Productivity, and employees of the plant and the Ministry.

The event began with a presentation by Director General of Vacuummash Evgeny Kapustin. He spoke about the development strategy of the company that positions itself as an all-Russian centre of vacuum engineering. The plant has been working in the vacuum technology for 60 years and has been cooperating for 25 years with its strategic partner from Germany, Leybold GmbH. Due to the established partnership, the company took about 30% on the Russian vacuum pump market and is a leader among other suppliers of vacuum equipment in the metal, chemical and petrochemical, nuclear, and other industries.

In order to implement the recommended measures, the company was given clear objectives to achieve indicators in shortening process times, reducing work in progress, and increasing productivity. As of now, the economic effect exceeded RUB 16 million.

On June 5, 2019, a delegation from the Swiss Confederation visited Tatarstan. As part of their visit, the Swiss delegation headed by Director at the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs Ms. Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch, had a meeting with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov. The parties to the meeting discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation between Tatarstan and Switzerland in such areas as manufacturing industry, IT, culture, tourism, education, and science.

Within the framework of their business programme, the guests from the Swiss Confederation visited the Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade. The delegation was met by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan German Lerner. The main purpose of their visit to the republic is the issues of the investment, administrative climate and legislative regulation in Tatarstan.

Representatives of Swiss companies (Swiss Textiles, Philip Morris International, Sika, Clariant Russia, and others), who were present at the meeting, were able to ask questions, studied the partners’ proposals, and present their enterprises for further cooperation with industrialists from Tatarstan.

At the end of the meeting, Swiss and Tatarstan representatives expressed their desire to discuss cooperation in detail, based on the proposals set forth at the meeting, and to agree on arranging B2B meetings for both parties’ enterprises in the future.

This year, the Engineer of the Year contest will be held, for the first time in Tatarstan. Active collection of applications is currently underway from all those involved in engineering and technical jobs in the republic.

The contest has three age-based divisions:

“Future Engineers”: engineering students;

“Youth, Success, Perspective”: engineers under the age of 35 years inclusive;

“Experience, Achievements, Competence”: engineers over the age of 35 years.

The contest is held in 12 categories broken down by republic’s industries and will involve 2 stages: by correspondence and on-site ones.

The correspondence stage is the application collection campaign and the work of the contest’s expert commission on selecting applications for participation in the on-site stage.

The on-site stage is a two-day travelling workshop, which includes master classes, training, testing, and project defences scheduled for late September and early October.
