Tatarstan launched Russia’s most high-powered gas turbine unit

19 June 2017, Monday

At the Kazan TETs-3, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the launch of the most high-powered gas turbine unit in the Russian Federation. The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan Albert Karimov.

A new gas turbine unit (GTU) at the Kazan TETs-3, a branch of TGK-16, was built within the plant’s comprehensive upgrading programme. The gas-turbine unit was built on the basis of the world’s largest and most efficient gas turbine (9HA.01) rated at 405.6 MW; its manufacturer is the US-headquartered General Electric Co. The Kazan TETs-3 is the second power plant in the world where a GTU with this type of turbine was ever put into commercial operation.

“The construction of the new unit is a unique project that will allow us to significantly improve economic parameters and become more competitive in the electricity market. It is no secret that now the wholesale electricity market has certain limitations. Due to its efforts, TGK-16 is an energy-efficient facility even now, while the launch of this GTU will be a major breakthrough,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

Moreover, the upgrading of the Kazan TETs-3 will help improve the plant's efficiency and meet the growing demand for heat and electricity from residents and industrial enterprises of the city.
