Naberezhnye Chelny paid tribute to 1st Director General of KAMAZ

Today, as part of the celebrations of the Mechanical Engineer’s Day in Naberezhnye Chelny, the bust to the first Director General of KAMAZ, Lev Vasiliev, was officially opened at 2 Avtozavodskoy Prospekt of the city.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov addressed the guests with a welcoming speech noting the invaluable contribution of Lev Vasiliev to the development of the city:

“Vasiliev is not only the history of the plant. During his ruling, the city, from a settlement of 30,000 people, grew up to 300,000 people with schools, streets, hospitals...”

Lev Vasiliev is a public official and industrial figure, a Hero of Socialist Labour, and Director General of the KAMAZ Production Association from 1969 to 1981. On February 7, 2020 Leo Vasiliev will turn 95 years old; he is still full of life and energy and lives in Moscow.
